What causes panic attacks? Anxiety can be caused by a number of different triggers. In your case, you might not even know.

When my wife was driving, a certain junction was her trigger. If she had to stop at that junction, bang, an attack was on her. In mere seconds she was shaking like a leaf and struggling to breath.
